The Preview of United States Supreme Court Cases (Preview) is a comprehensive American Bar Association (ABA) subscription publication that spans eight distinct issues throughout the course of a Supreme Court term. This resource provides in-depth expert analyses of all cases scheduled for plenary review by the Supreme Court, offering valuable insights before oral arguments occur.
The first seven issues are strategically published before the Court's seven argument sessions from October to April. Each issue delves into the specifics of the upcoming cases, examining critical legal questions, the backgrounds of the cases, and the potential implications of the decisions.
Following the conclusion of the Court's term in June, the eighth issue is released in July. This special edition serves as a retrospective review of the entire term, encapsulating the essence of the Supreme Court's rulings and decisions. It utilizes a diverse array of formats, including detailed charts, statistical analyses, concise case summaries, and engaging essays that highlight the most significant developments of the term. This comprehensive approach ensures that subscribers are well-informed about the nuances of the Court's work, making it an essential resource for those interested in legal scholarship and Supreme Court activities.
Steven Schwinn, UIC Law Associate Dean for Research & Faculty Development and Professor of Law, regularly contributes to the Preview.
Current editions of the Previews are available via the ABA website. Past editions (2005 to 2019) are available via the Preview Archive. HeinOnline has coverage from 1973 to the present.
